Our Membership with the ICCR
Proud Member of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility
For nearly 40 years the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) has helped lead the way in the corporate social responsibility movement. ICCR's membership is an association of faith-based investors which include national denominations, religious communities, pension funds, foundations, hospital corporations, economic development funds, asset management companies, colleges, and unions.
ICCR and its members press companies to be socially and environmentally responsible. Each year ICCR-member religious institutional investors sponsor over 300 shareholder resolutions on major social and environmental issues. In recent months, the ICCR has filed two major resolutions. The first was against Citigroup on April 20th urging more derivatives disclosure, and it garnered a solid 30% shareholder support. Another shareholder resolution was filed a few days later on April 26th against Bank of America where they garnered a very strong 39% of shares cast in support of better derivatives disclosure.
Investing for Catholics chose to join the ICCR in order to strengthen our ability to engage in global Social Justice issues and to dovetail our efforts with those of the ICCR. By joining the ICCR, Investing for Catholics is able to offer its institutional clients the opportunity to also join forces with the ICCR, despite the fact they have no direct ICCR representation. In doing so, ICCR assets with be joined by external assets which will fall in line with its efforts and Catholic institutions will have the opportunity to participate in active ownership while passively investing.
Some of the strategies the ICCR uses are:
- sponsoring shareholder resolutions
- engaging in dialogue with corporate management
- networking with others in civil society who share our concerns
- participating in public hearings
- partnering with community organizations
- organizing letter writing campaigns
Investing for Catholics, in cooperation with the ICCR, build a more just and sustainable world by integrating social values into corporate and investor actions.
