ETF Total Assets Top $90 Billion

The total assets of all exchange-traded funds that trade in the U.S. rose to $92.86 billion in May 2002, according to the Investment Company Institute, the mutual fund industry's trade group. Total ETF assets increased by $7 million in May, with domestic funds gaining nearly $4 billion while international assets jumped over $3 billion during the month.
According to the ICI's monthly ETF totals, May marks the first time ETF assets have cleared the $90 billion plateau. In May, Barclays Global Investors also reported that an unknown institutional investor plunked down $2.3 billion in the iShares MSCI EAFE.
