Standard & Poor's today announced the launch of the new S&P ADR Index. American Depository Receipts (ADRs) are certificates traded in the U.S. that represent an interest in shares of a foreign company.
"The S&P ADR Index will offer pension plans and other institutional investors an easy-to-replicate index of large cap international stocks without the complexities and costs of cross-border trading," said Robert Shakotko, managing director at Standard & Poor's Index Services.
"We are speaking with the marketplace about licensing and hope soon to offer investors a variety of investment vehicles linked to the S&P ADR Index," added Bo Chung, managing director of client services at Standard & Poor's Index Services.
